Beautiful boots, beautiful fit, beautiful service March 25, 2008 Title of this post says it all -- couldn't be happier with this purchase. I'm particularly grateful that the seller was so meticulous about posting detailed sizing info; not every style's right for me, but these were perfect. And received so quickly! Fabulous shopping experience. I'll definitely be back.
the hunt for wide calf October 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this is going to be the most thorough review ever. i coudln't find any information/reviews on wide shaft boots when i was shopping so i've decided to help someone else out as much as i can.
I am 27, 5'3 3/4" Regular size 10, petite 12 My calves are about 15" high, and 17" wide. Legs are shapely, normal sized ankles, calves start lower on leg than normal. They measure 14" circumference by 10" high. My feet are a 7.5 w, comfortable width but a bit long in length (7ww feels short and squat and a regular 7.5 is tight)
now that you know all about me, i ordered the jolly's because i wanted a flat riding boot for casual fall/winter wear with jeans leggings and skirts.
Jolly specs: 14" shaft 17 3/4" for my foot size 7.5
i ordered a 7.5WW because i read that this brand runs small foot width wise and also because i will be wearing socks/stockings/leggings with it. the jolly sounded just right at 17 3/4" in the calf (for my size).
I received them yesterday and here are my thoughts: First thing i noticed was that the boot flared out at the top. I suspect that has more to do with my short calves as it is as close to my knees as possible. i could not do with a higher boot because it would irritate the back of my knees. So it flares out where my calf curves back into my knee. i didn't love that, it makes my calves look wider. 2nd the leather felt kind of pleather-y to me, i think that is attributed to the tricot lining inside, it gives it a bit of a puffy,cushion-y look. i gotcomplimented on the leather by a friend however so it might just be to my critical eye. Lastly the heel cup is a bit stiff and it irritates my heel a little, but i think when i break it in, it should be fine. im pretty sure i will get a blister on my heel today which is my first day wearing them.
HOWEVER. the footbed and width are AMAZING. definitely what made up my mind about keeping these boots. as hard as it is to find wide calf boots, its also hard to find a pair with a wide and comfortable footbed. it is lightly cushioned, has a beautiful classic almond toe and is altogether very comfortable. the heel is comfy as hell, higher than i wanted (i wanted a flat 1" or less) but i cant even tell.
so i plan on keeping them, if i am industrious, i may get the top of the shaft taken in so it looks form fitting instead of flared at the top, depends on how much that annoys me.
i am happy with my purchase and am grateful to widewidths.com for their help in purchasing these boots. i sent them 3 emails, all properly answered in a timely manner.
